I looked up some recent catalogues and stats to try to understand how the bloodstock/breeding business is moving on. Goffs have been praising their sale this week with glowing comments in the press. But just how good a week has it been? Some vendors have had wonderful sales of course but many, many have not. Here are a few comparisons: The present Orby Sales was ten years ago called the Million Sale:
Aggregate
2006-> 59.186million ...... 2016-> 39.925million
Average
2006-> 115,824 ...... 2016-> 109,986
Median
2016-> 70,000 ...... 2016-> 67,000
2006-> Offered 601 (total sold 511) .... 2016-> Offered 431 (total sold 363)
Top price 2006-> 2m ...... Top price 2016-> 1.4m
So there you have it. Not great figures are they. Okay, I know just after 2006 we all hit a recession but let me ask you something. Are you paying more for your feed now compared to 2006? And your vet bills, have they risen too? What about the wages, have they increased? As for stallion nomination fees - do I have to ask are you paying more now than 2006? Not a pretty picture is it.
Above figures are accurate as I see it but may be subject small alterations.
